Tasuno-Umi (Kojinyama Reservoir ) situated in Kojinyama Athletic Park is designated as one of “Japan’s 100 Remarkable Reservoirs” by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Around Tatsuno-umi where swans live in, you can enjoy the seasonal changes in the scenery such as beautiful cherry blossoms in spring and many colorful illuminations in winter. There is also a trail for walking around Tatsuno-umi.

Tatsuno-umi is an artificial pond of warm water which was made in 1969. The perimeter is 700 meters and it covers an area of 27000 square meters. The amount of water is 30000 tons and the depth of water is 4.5meters. The water is pumped up and supplied from Sawazoko-gawa River, which lies about 600 meters below. The water is used to irrigate 3.3 hectare rice fields.

In spring, “Kojinyama-koen Cherry Blossom Festival” is held and a lot of flower viewers visit this place. During this festival, about 150 carp streamers float in the air above Tatsuno-umi and about 800 cherry trees come into full floom.
In winter, the area around Tatsuno-umi is all lit up with colorful lights. The beautiful illuminations light up the whole park.

There are some hot springs in Kojinyama where Tatuno-umi lies. You can enjoy hot springs for day trippers at Tatsuno Park Hotel or at Tatsuno Uni-iku Center.

(Attention) A Note on a Reservoir
A reservoir is an artificial pond which is made to maintain agricultural water in the area without abundant water supplies such as vast rivers. Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has designated 100 reservoirs with outstanding features for agricultural water in Japan as “Japan’s 100 remarkable reservoirs”, so that the Japanese people could realize that the reservoirs in Japan have a long history, various important roles, and need to be preserved because it is becoming difficult to maintain them with the decrease and the rising age of agricultural workers.
The Select Committee (organized by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries) has selected 100 reservoirs in Japan according to the following criteria: (1) Agricultural Base (2) History/Tradition/Culture (3) Landscape (4) Biodiversity (5) Relations with the Community
(Attention) There exist about 210000 reservoirs in Japan.
